Aaron’s new thought of card is the style of minimal Mentalism that I find the most useful: all the psycho-mechanical systems are invisible, subtle, and structured so that by time the performance is ready to begin, you’re on your way into a direct, no nonsense reveal. Another bonus to this new system is the presentational freedom a mentalist has. This is different to most effects of this style, in where the presentation is trapped by the method. Aaron’s method doesn’t fall into this trap as bad as other effects that’s come before. The very few card effects I can see myself doing in casual environments!

You hand them a single printed card.
They silently locate their thought-of card.
You never ask a question.
You never have them reveal any information.

1. Fishing Disguised as Mind Reading The performer asks questions that secretly narrow possibilities. The audience may not understand the method, but they still remember the questions.
2. Logical or Memory Puzzles Truth-tellers, liars, coded responses, and pre-arranged flows. These require the spectator to play along in some logic system.
AFTERIMAGE removes all of that. No logical puzzle. No layered truth/lie mechanics. No need to force the participant into a structure. The lie is pure, unconnected, and completely natural. And yet, you still reconstruct the thought-of card with pinpoint accuracy.
